Tip of Tex K-9 Rescue has recently embarked on an innovative partnership to increase
the number of animals rescued in South Texas. This partnership also includes local
volunteers, veterinarians, and the Humane Society of Boulder Valley.
Due to low levels of animal sterilization in South Texas, there are thousands of
unwanted animals euthanized here every year. Through a sustained community effort
in which animal adoption and sterilization were promoted, Boulder Colorado has
achieved a pet population growth that is below the current demand for adoptions. The
Humane Society of Boulder Valley (HSBV) has built on this success by reaching out to
other areas of the country and transferring rescued dogs and cats to their facility.

PAWS and the Brownsville Animal Shelter celebrated this Saturday, May 1, 2010
at the Stillman Dog Park for the Second Annual Catherine Stillman Day.
Pat Ahumada, Mayor of Brownsville, will recognize Ms Dee Labunski, Director of
Tip-O-Tex K9 Rescue for all her help by adopting hundreds of dogs from the
Brownsville Animal Shelter thus lowering the number of animals being euthanized at
the shelter and fighting Brownsville's animal over-population.
We have a litter of 10 pups that are lab/catahoula mix rescued by foster mom Jamie
the Tues. before Hurricane Alex. As everyone was preparing Jamie was trying to
figure out a way to get them out of a drainage pipe right outside of Harlingen. They
were in the middle of the pipe and she and others had left food for the mom but could
not reach the pups.
She went back a 2nd time with a pool skimmer and managed to get them out - all 10 of
them plus mom. She had them checked by a vet and they were 1 - 2 weeks old and
seemed to be healthy. Jamie took them all home and is fostering them until they are
weaned and ready for a home.
We have managed with Becky's help in Kingsville to get them accepted in Denver, ,Co.
They will be shipped 8/19/10 when they are 8 - 9 weeks old. With Becky's help it will
still cost us about $300 for shipping charges alone to send them. They also have to
have health certificates before they leave. They will have had their 2nd pup shots
prior to sending them, deworming and bordatella.
As you know mix pups are not easy to adopt out here in the valley so we are thrilled
and feel lucky they were accepted in Denver where there is a shortage of pups.
