All Assur O’Poil cat breeds – Somali
. History and origins
Somali is from Canada and not from Somali as the name implies. The first specimens would come from a litter of Abyssinian cats, in which newborns with longer hair were found.
The breed will be recognized in the 60s, breeders refusing to accept such fur for a breed that was to be short.
The Somali is incredibly beautiful and elegant with a whole sawdust: she is a long hairy Abyssinian!
. Character and competencies
Like its Abyssinian cousin, the Somali has a vibrant and assertive character; it is, however, much quieter and more familiar than the latter.
Somali is an exceptional combination of a relaxed-looking cat, lively as a rosary but close to humans. Watching a “revolver” doesn’t leave you indifferent …!
. Physical characteristics
● Average life expectancy: 13 to 16 years old

The Somali has a strong muscular structure developed by a rounded rib cage. He is graceful with his triangular head with exact contours. The color of his delicate eyes is gold or green. His ears are pointed at a height. The body and legs are tapered but very strong with a very strong framework.
Her dress is incredibly soft and smooth, and her mid-length coat requires little maintenance.
. Health and care
Somali is strong, requires no certain maintenance and has little hair loss. It is not prone to disease. A little more care is needed to take care of her thick dress. Brushing needs to be done at least twice a week in order to keep it silky to the touch.
A sharper look can be achieved by combing the hair of the ears with a comb.
